DEFINITION OF PREPOSITIONAL PHRASE
Prepositional phrase in a sentence prepositions show the relation of one word to another word. Preposition require object to complete them, typically a noun or pronoun. A preposition and it's object is called a prepositional phrase.
THE PREPOSITIONAL PHRASE :
If a word does not have an object , then the word is not functioning as a prepositional preposition.
A prepositional phrase will begin with a prepositional and end with a noun ,pronoun,gerund,or clause ,which is called the "object" of preposition.
- The Pattern :
Preposition + noun,pronoun,gerund,or clause
The object at the preposition will often have one of more modifiers to describe it.
- The Pattern :
EXAMPLE :
1. The book on the bathroom floor is swollen from shower steam .
- Which book ? The one on the bathroom floor.
- Which book ? The one on the bathroom floor.
2. The note from Baverly confessed that she had eaten the left over pizza.
- Which note ? The one from Baverly.
